The history of the Porsche 911 began in 1963, when it was first shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Nobody foresaw that this car will last on the line more than fifty years and become a cult and legend of all time. Originally the name was different. The model was called the Porsche 901. A long-awaited and very significant event in the history of Porsche was held on November 4, 2006 – the beginning of a worldwide car sales «Porsche 911 Targa» in the new 997th body.

Targa is a completely unique concept of the 911 model series. Visual appearance of Targa dominated the glass surface, beginning with the windshield and rear ends with rising glass. Stuttgarters worked well over the sliding roof. The new double-layer glass panel allowed making the whole construction 1.9 kg lighter. A new system of rails and noise screens reduced turbulence in the cabin at highway speeds. According to the driver team two electric motors in just seven seconds and at any speed shift under the roof and rear window open over the head of 0.45 m² sky. The new generation of predecessor Targa 996 differs slightly, it has the same roof rack, a lifting rear window with wiper. But for the first time in its history Targa appeared in all-wheel drive performance. The Targa-4 is equipped with a 3.6-liter boxer engine producing 325 horse powers, which accelerates the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and can reach speeds up to 280 km/h. The more powerful S-version (Targa-4S) uses a 3.8-liter engine that produces 355 hp Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 4.9 seconds, the Targa 4S can move with maximum speed – 288 km/h, which corresponds to the capabilities of a true sports car.

Engines, transmissions and all-wheel drive transmission with a viscous coupling in the drive of the front wheels are the same as in closed Carrera 4 and 4S. As well as all-wheel drive coupe, the new Targa is wider (by 44 mm), compared to rear-wheel drive versions, the rear fenders. However, the Targa has another little advantage: if you fold the rear seats, you get extra baggage volume – 230 cubic liters. And you can reach it with the help of lifting glass, which has a servo operated from the cabin or from a charm.
