BMW E21 Review

The model BMW E21 is a direct successor to the BMW of 2002, and in 1983 was replaced by a compact conveyor series E30. The development of the BMW E21 began in 1970, when the company’s management decided to remove from the production of the 2002 and outdated design to be replaced by a more modern car with improved characteristics. The debut of the production version of the BMW E21 was held in 1975 at the Olympic Stadium in Munich, where the audience met the novelty enough kindly. The car has received a typical BMW design with distinctive round headlights, protruding tapered hood and two “nostrils” air intakes. The compact body combined with a small wheelbase different sporty proportions corresponding to BMW philosophy.

Model got rack pinion steering, McPherson suspension in front and rear linkage design. Initially, the standard transmission was a 4-speed mechanical, 5-band transmission appeared only in 1980. In addition the “mechanics” for the BMW E21 was also available automatic transmission with 3 speeds. The car has received a combined braking system – installed front disc design, the rear – not less efficient drum. In the mid-1970s, the Bavarian company has invested heavily in a new series of engines M60 (later renamed to M20) for the BMW E21 and others. The most cost-effective modification has been 315, developed in the midst of the oil crisis. The top version of the 323 was equipped with a 145-horsepower engine with Bosch Jetronic injection K.

BMW E21 History

BMW 323i E21 – Injection 2.3 liter sports car model of series E21. 323rd model was launched in 1977 after the huge commercial success of the new generation of the BMW E21 3 Series in 1975 with the first modification of the BMW 316, 318 and 320 with a four-cylinder engine, and then with the first six-cylinder BMW 320.

The top model of BMW E21 323i was equipped with a 6-cylinder 143-horsepower fuel-injected engine M20B23. Fuel injection was performed on this motor Bosch injector. The car came with a power steering, 4-speed manual transmission as standard, and the optional 5-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmission.
